Google and Wikipedia wouldn’t help because * is the wildcard character in much of search, programming, and code-writing. “R*” is all words starting with R, “*ed” is all words ending in ed, and “trans*” is all words starting with trans.
ah yeah that is the linguistic reason for that word to look the way it does, as well! here you go, anon~~~
